this weekend upright cabaret in LA

Hi there

for any of you West Coasters seeking a fun weekend. I’m in a Dolly Parton Tribute at the Upright Cabaret on Friday and Saturday. THis is the exciting LA hip cabaret space that Lea Michelle just performed her cabaret at , where JLY threw in a few songs. I’ve never met the producers till 2 days ago, and they are young, vibrant guys with a cool vision. This tribute is to conincide with 9 to 5 opening at the Ahmanson this month.

I guess there are over 30 performers over the 2 nights. I’m not sure yet who they are. I just know I’m learning and singing a Dolly Parton song I had not previously heard..Have YOU??? it’s called  HEARTBREAK EXPRESS.

The show is 15$ and it starts at 9 pm…

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE AND IF YOU DO COME, YOU BETTER SAY HI..XOXO

Jen, one has to be from the West Coast to attend this show (re “any of you West Coasters seeking a fun weekend”)??? I am from the West Coast of Staten Island (really–the NJ side that people have to travel through to get to an island in NY anyway!)–does that count? Do I need to bring an electric bill to prove my address??

Now, here’s the $64,000 question: how will they make you up to look like Dolly? (Well, I guess the waist size is about the same, huh??)

Good luck, Jennifer. Thanks for the update! “I–I—I will always love you–oou–oou” and “here you come again, and there I go!!”

It sounds like a great show, Howard is right you do have her waist :)
Hope you get to wear one of those great big wigs!

Dearest friend, You know I’d be there in a second! If only I had wings and could fly across the country, I’d be at your home for coffee a few times a week! You know I’ll be with you in spirit and I know you’re gonna rock that song girl! Is it one of the new songs Dolly wrote for the show? Have the best time ever and I can’t wait to hear all about it! Love you lots!! Wanda

Sounds like a great time – I’m so bummed that I can’t be there to watch you shine! I think you will have a FANTASTIC interpretation of the song – upbeat, swingin’, a little bit of soul… (picturing YouTube video of you singing “Movin’ on Up” from The Jeffersons) – it seems like a great fit for you.

    Have a WONDERFUL time! :)

    Hey Jennifer,

Wish we could be there in person, but will be in spirit. You will be fantastic.

Check your mail for a little something( if it hasn’t already arrived)

    XOXO,
    Stacey

Wishing you a fun (how could it be anything else but) “Dolly Parton Weekend” at the Upright. Love Dolly Parton. Never met a person who didn’t. Is a Dolly dress-up a requirement? Will Dolly be there?

    Enjoy, you lucky girl!

Now you’ll have to visit Dollywood the next time you travel to Tennessee! That sounds realy cool. I for one am anxious to see “9 to 5″ when it debuts on Broadway. I think you should attend the opening…and then visit with all your East & West coast fans afterwards at a Southern style brunch! Looking forward to your blog on your cabaret performance. Y’all have fun!

As one of your “newer” west coast fans, I am sadly unable to make it this weekend to that swingin’ little joint in my old stomping grounds. But I see its website features more Dolly tributes coming up…if you’re a part of them, I WILL be there!!

    Best of luck this weekend,

    Stubbs and G

Oops – I see I was wrong about future Dolly events at the Upstairs Cabaret. We’ll just have to start lobbying the producers to put on an all-Jen night!

I saw the YouTube clip of your performance – you ROCKED it just like I knew you would! Looked like such a fun time – wish I had been there. Great job!!
