JLY COMES TO SAY GOODBYE

WHAT A GREAT SURPRISE AND TREAT. JOHN LLOYD YOUNG AND HIS GIRLFRIEND ALLISON, CAME TO THE MATINEE YESTERDAY. I USUALLY DON’T LIKE TO KNOW WHO’S IN THE AUDIENCE, AS IT TAKES ME OUT OF CHARACTER…BUT SEBASTIAN LET IT SLIP THAT HE WAS OUT THERE YESTERDAY, AND HE WAS THERE, TO SEE ME IN THE SHOW BEFORE I LEFT.

INSTEAD OF BEING SELF CONSCIOUS, I WAS SO HONORED, AND TOUCHED…THAT IT MADE MY BREAK UP SCENE AND ‘MY EYES ADORED YOU’ ON THE STAIRS MORE POIGNANT, AT LEAST FOR ME.

HE LOOKS WONDERFUL, HAPPY, PEACEFUL. ALLISON TOO. I HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO AUDITION FOR HER A FEW WEEKS AGO FOR ‘LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS’ AND THE WAY SHE SET UP THE AUDITION ROOM…THE WARMTH, WELCOMING, PROFESSIONALISM AND FUN…WAS SO FREEING FOR AN ACTOR…I HAD THE BEST TIME

I GOT TO SPEAK WITH BOTH OF THEM FOR AWHILE AFTER THE SHOW…AND, GOSH, IT JUST MADE ME MISS HIM, BUT VALUE THAT TIME WE HAD…HE’S AUDITIONING A LOT AND ACTUALLY HAS A CALLBACK FOR A NEW PILOT…SO KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED TO SEE HIM ON SCREEN. OK GOT A SHOW TO DO…9 MORE…..AND COUNTING.

Jen, That was so thoughtful and sweet of John and Alison. I’m so happy you got to see him before you leave. I can imagine and understand how emotional that must have been for you. ~~ But man, do ya have to actually count down the days?? It’s sad enough to know you’re leaving, I keep pretending that it’s still a few months away…..like maybe a year!!!???!!! Love ya, Wanda

    Hi Jen,

What a lovely surprise from John & Alison. I was wondering if he had been back to the show since he left. I know that he was singing right along with you for the break up & my Eyes Adored You scenes.

Glad to here that they are both doing well. I’ll keep my ears open for any news on his pilot. How did the audition for Little Shop Of Horrors go? I’m sure you were great.

Gee, only 9 shows left…I agree with Wanda…don’t count them down…..only makes it more final for us.

Will talk to you soon. We all send you much love.
    Will be in touch.

    Luv ya,
    XOXO

Wow, Jennifer–this posting really brought tears to my eyes, and yes, you two will always be remembered as the original Frankie and Mary, just as Ethel Merman and Jack Klugman are remembered by all nearly 50 (yes, from 1959) years later as Mama Rose and Herbie in the original “Gypsy”. Same with Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews in “My Fair Lady” over 40 years ago!

Both you and John are truly class people, and you’ll both always have a huge fan base. Please keep the Blog up and let us know what you’re doing!

Thanks for sharing about the visit from John and Alison. I could not imagine how saying good-bye to John would be for you. In my mind you are the original and best Frankie and Mary! Cannot wait to hear about your next step. xxoo Gayle

Jen, it sounds like a great reunion. You and JLY together on stage will always be a wonderful, memorable Broadway moment for me.

Enjoy your remaining shows. Your smile will be missed under the lights of Broadway.

That was a sweet story…class act from a classy guy to a classy lady! You both left your mark on these roles and I feel fortunate to have seen you both several times in Jersey Boys.

There really is no other “Frankie and Mary”!!!

    Anyway for me that is.

Thank you JLY and Jen, I always left Jersey Boys happy because of you!

Oh geez, I can not imagine how touching that was for you. To see your old Frankie in the audience!! That was very sweet for him and Allison to come to see one of your last shows. :) It must have been different for him to sit in the audience. “My Eyes Adored You” must have went wonderfully. Like others have said, both you and JLY created the roles of Frankie and Mary and I, and other fans, will never forget that!

I can’t believe the date is almost here!! It makes me so sad to think about it.. :(

    Love,
    A
